The KApro EXs127 "Legacy 16 Bit Classics Vol. 1" Library offers a sound set of
• 256 programs in the banks U-AA and U-BB,
• 128 wave sequences, mostly implementing a “round robin” based realistic sounding and vivid audio reproduction, and
• 410 stereophonic multisamples (1.81 GB of PCM data)
for the KORG KRONOS.
The brand new KApro EXs127 "Legacy 16 Bit Classics Vol. 1" and KApro EXs128 "Legacy 16 Bit Classics Vol. 2" Libraries are dedicated to a 16 bit digital sound production system of which the first version was introduced in 1977, already. Immediately, this system became highly influential among composers and producers for its cutting-edge audio processing capabilities and its distinctive sounds, providing a sampling rate of up to 100 kHz in the early 1980s at 16 bit resolution per sample and, hence, gradually turning into a true tapeless studio which became one of the ancestors of all modern DAWs.
In this KApro EXs127 "Legacy 16 Bit Classics Vol. 1" Library, you will find
• brass instruments like trumpets, piccolo trumpets, French horns, trombones and tubas, recorded with a vast variety of playing styles as well as round robin based realistic sound emulation,
• woodwind instruments such as the famous shakuhachi sounds of the 1980s, flutes, piccolo flutes and sax sections, also presenting a large portfolio of playing styles and effects as well as round robin based realistic sound emulation,
• choirs and vocal effects, often with a round robin based vivid sound emulation,
• tuned percussion instruments like vibraphone and glockenspiel,
• percussion instruments like processed bass drums and snare drums along with groove loops and percussion effects,
• digital synthesis sounds, especially based on the frequency modulation capabilities of the legacy 16 bit classic instrument – just "beat it" –, and, last but not least,
• vocoder processed counting in the three languages English, French and German.
All samples were recorded in stereo.
Catch the KApro spirit with the KApro EXs127 "Legacy 16 Bit Classics Vol. 1" Library, an absolute MUST HAVE for every KRONOS user!

System requirements
To install EXs, you’ll need:
Installing EXs
- Unzip the downloaded EXs.zip file.
Unzipping the archive will result in a folder containing several different files.
- Copy the unzipped EXs folder to a USB storage device, such as flash memory or a USB hard drive.
- Safely disconnect the USB storage device from your computer.
- Connect the USB storage device to one of the KRONOS’s two USB A ports.
- Press the DISK button to enter Disk mode.
- Touch the "Utility" tab.
- Using the "Drive Select" menu at the bottom of the page, select the USB storage device.
- Touch the folder containing the EXs data from step 2, then touch "Open."
- Touch the EXs.exsins file to select it.
- Select "Install EXs" from the drop-down menu, or simply touch "Install".
The system will check to confirm that the installation files are valid, and that there is sufficient space on the SSD to install the EXs. Next, an “Install EXs ”dialog box will appear:
- Touch "Install" to continue with the installation.
The confirmation message “Are you sure?” will appear. If you decide to cancel the installation, touch "Cancel."
- Touch "OK" to continue with the installation.
The installation will then begin. This may take a while; a progress bar shows the installation as it proceeds.
Next, the newly installed files will be verified. After the verification has completed successfully, the progress bar will disappear, and the installation is complete. The EXs sample data itself is installed on an invisible, protected part of the disk. To use the EXs, you’ll load its associated files, which will be installed into a new folder named “EXs (title) ” within the KApro folder.
- Turn the power switch off, wait 10 seconds, and then turn it on again.
Loading the new samples and sounds
You can load the samples and sounds(Programs, Combis, Drum Kits, Wave Sequences, and Songs) into the default locations all at once.
To do so:
- While still in Disk mode, touch the "Load" tab.
- Set "Drive Select" to HDD: INTERNAL HD.
- Select the KApro folder, and touch "Open."
- Select the EXs (title) folder, and touch "Open."
- Select the file "EXs.PCG."
- Touch "Load."
A dialog box appears.
- Enable the check-box labeled "Load EXs.KSC. too."
This will load the samples along with the sounds.
- Set "Select .KSC Allocation" to "Append," and set "Load Method" to "KSC Setting."
- Leave the ".PCG Contents" parameter set to "All."
Below the other parameters, you’ll notice a status line showing the Memory Required and Available.
If the Available value is larger than Memory Required, the text will be in black, and you can proceed.
If the Available value is smaller than Memory Required, it will be shown in red characters. (*1)
- Touch "OK" to load the data.
(*1) 3 GB of physical RAM recommended
In System Version1.5, installation of an additional 1GB of RAM is supported, and can be performed at any authorized Korg service center. This approximately doubles the maximum available sample RAM, up to about 2 GB.
To load some of EXs titles at the same time as the factory preload samples, 3 GB of physical RAM is required. KRONOS system version 1.5.0 adds support for the professional installation of additional RAM; for more information, see the documentation for the 1.5.0 update. With 2 GB of physical RAM, you can still use EXs titles, but you’ll need to unload some of the preload samples first.
Demo mode
Initially, EXs will be in demo mode. You’ll be able to play, edit, and save Programs, Combis, Drum Kits, Wave Sequences, and Songs which use EXs, but until you purchase an authorization code, their sound will fade out periodically.
To purchase an authorization code, use the shopping cart on this web page.
For more information, see “Global P6: Options Info” section in the KRONOS_Param_Guide.pdf manual with the KRONOS System Version 1.5.0.
